BBC confirms the council approved the expansion of the Leicester City stadium.

The King Power Stadium’s 8,000-seat expansion for Leicester City has been approved.

After conducting a public consultation, the club submitted an application for planning permission to Leicester City Council in October 2021.

Additionally, it intends to construct residential flats, a flagship fan store, an events arena, and a brand-new hotel and business center.

Plans were initially approved by council members in September 2022 in anticipation of a financial agreement, which has since been reached.

In 2021, Leicester City announced plans to increase the stadium’s capacity to 40,000 seats, making it one of the country’s largest football stadiums

The club said more than 1,000 jobs would be created during the construction period, with another 1,000 permanent positions across facilities on the site.

Council members approved the designs in September of last year, subject to the club completing a Section 106 financial agreement.

The club stated that this agreement has now been reached.

A representative for Leicester City stated, The club thanks its fellow city stakeholders for their continued cooperation and support of a development vision that will be transformative for the city and the region and welcomes this endorsement of the planning committee’s previous approval.

Given the size of the investment that will be required from the club and its owners to bring it to fruition, it will be the responsibility of the club’s leadership to ensure that the final detailed plans for a project of such duration deliver optimal value.

The club looks forward to advancing those detailed proposals, while continuing to monitor associated market conditions, which will enable us to plan an appropriate timeline for development work to commence
