BREAKING: Dylan Edwards Reveals Why He Wants More Snaps at Kansas State but Not the Every-Down Back Label
MANHATTAN, KS — Kansas State running back Dylan Edwards is setting the tone early for what he hopes will be a breakout season in 2025. After transferring from Colorado, the explosive sophomore is making headlines not only for his on-field potential but for his clarity about the role he wants to play in the Wildcats’ offense.
In a candid conversation with reporters after spring workouts, Edwards opened up about why he’s pushing to get more snaps next season, while also expressing hesitation about being labeled as an “every-down back.”
“I want to be on the field as much as possible — no question,” Edwards said. “But that doesn’t mean I need to be the guy taking every single carry up the middle. I know where I can make the biggest impact.”
Edwards, known for his elite speed and versatility, emphasized that his goal is to create mismatches and explosive plays — not necessarily to carry the ball 25 times a game.
“I’m a weapon. Whether that’s in the backfield, in the slot, or out wide, I want to be used in ways that keep defenses guessing,” he said. “Being an every-down back is great for some guys, but I think I bring more value when I’m moving around and staying fresh.”
At Colorado, Edwards showed flashes of his dynamic ability, including a standout performance in the 2023 opener where he scored multiple touchdowns. But limited usage and a crowded backfield led him to seek a fresh start at Kansas State, where he believes the coaching staff understands how to maximize his strengths.
Wildcats head coach Chris Klieman echoed that sentiment during media availability last week.
“Dylan’s a special athlete,” Klieman said. “We don’t want to limit him to one role. Our job is to put him in situations where he can break a game open.”
For Edwards, it’s about staying true to who he is as a player — and being smart about longevity in a demanding position.
“I’m not trying to prove I’m a workhorse,” he added. “I’m trying to prove I’m a game-changer.”
As Kansas State prepares for the 2025 season, expect to see a lot of Dylan Edwards on the field — just not in the traditional way. And that’s exactly how he wants it.
