BREAKING: Devin Booker Commits $10 Million to Support Phoenix Community—Providing Free Food and Healthcare Services for Individuals with Disabilities and Illnesses

Phoenix, AZ — May 6, 2025

In a remarkable display of compassion and leadership, Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker has pledged $10 million of his personal wealth to launch a transformative community initiative aimed at delivering free food and healthcare services to individuals living with disabilities and chronic illnesses throughout the Phoenix area.

The initiative, titled “The Booker Wellness Project,” is being developed in partnership with local healthcare providers, nonprofits, and food banks. It represents one of the largest individual donations to community health and welfare in recent Phoenix history.

Inspired by Family, Driven by Purpose

At a press conference held outside the Banner – University Medical Center, Booker shared that the cause is deeply personal. Raised by a single mother who worked in healthcare, he said he witnessed the struggles faced by families living with medical and financial burdens.

> “I’ve seen what it looks like when people fall through the cracks,” Booker said. “Whether it’s a disability, a chronic illness, or just not having enough to eat—these are things no one should face alone. I want to be part of the solution.”

What the $10 Million Will Fund

The Booker Wellness Project will support:

Three mobile medical units delivering on-site healthcare, including physical exams, chronic disease management, mental health services, and prescription assistance

Five community food centers across Phoenix neighborhoods like South Mountain, Maryvale, and Alhambra, providing daily hot meals and grocery distributions

Transportation services for individuals with mobility challenges to reach hospitals, therapy sessions, or food centers

Health education workshops for families and caregivers

A scholarship program for young people with disabilities pursuing healthcare careers

Community and City Praise

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego lauded Booker’s commitment as “a beacon of hope for thousands of families.”

> “This isn’t just a donation—it’s a blueprint for community care,” she said. “Devin’s work will ripple across generations.”

Dr. Alejandra Ruiz, a physician at Valleywise Health, will serve as one of the initiative’s lead medical coordinators.

> “This project will reach the people who need care the most but are often the last to receive it,” Ruiz said. “Devin is giving them a voice—and a lifeline.”

Beyond Basketball

Known for his quiet leadership and commitment to off-court causes, Booker has previously supported education programs and foster care initiatives in Arizona. This latest endeavor significantly expands his philanthropic reach.

> “Basketball gave me a platform,” Booker said. “Now it’s my turn to use that platform to stand up for others.”

The first phase of the Booker Wellness Project is set to launch in August 2025, with mobile units and food centers becoming operational throughout the fall.
