Ja Morant Breaks Silence on Costly Decision in Loss: “It Was the Best Move at the Time”

After the Memphis Grizzlies’ heartbreaking loss to the Denver Nuggets last night, Ja Morant finally addressed the critical moment that had fans and analysts questioning his decision-making. In the final minute of the game, with Memphis down by two points, Morant opted to drive to the basket rather than pass to an open Desmond Bane at the three-point line. The move resulted in a tough contested layup that rimmed out, sealing the Grizzlies’ fate in a 112-110 defeat.

Speaking to reporters post-game, Morant acknowledged the scrutiny but stood by his choice.

“I saw the play develop, and in that split second, I trusted my instincts. I knew I could get to the rim, and I felt like I had a good look,” Morant explained. “I understand people will say I should’ve kicked it out, but in the heat of the moment, you have to make a decision fast. I’ll live with that.”

Coach Taylor Jenkins defended his star, emphasizing that basketball is a game of split-second judgments.

“Ja has won us games making that exact same play,” Jenkins said. “Hindsight is always clearer, but he made the right read for what he saw.”

Teammate Desmond Bane also dismissed any frustration, backing Morant’s aggressive mindset.

“That’s our leader. He’s built for those moments,” Bane stated. “Next time, we convert that play, and we win. It’s as simple as that.”

Despite the loss, Morant’s leadership and accountability were evident. While Memphis fans may debate the decision, one thing is certain—Morant remains fearless and ready to take on the pressure that comes with being the face of the franchise.
