Nederland bulldog football Commits Opt To Play At Bulldog Over NFL…
Nederland football coach Monte Barrow resigns
While its district neighbor and biggest rival is still celebrating a state title, the Nederland football team is now in need of a new head coach.
According to a press release from the school district, Monte Barrow, who had been Nederland’s football coach and athletic director for the previous seven seasons, resigned on Monday. The Bulldogs finished 4-7 overall last season and lost in the opening round of the Class 5A-II playoffs, which is why the changes have been made.
“NISD would like to thank coach Barrow for his many years of service to the district and wishes him success in his future endeavors,” the school said in a statement. “In addition, NISD would like to thank coach Barrow for his commitment to all NISD athletics.”
As the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterback during the tenure of former coach Larry Neaumann, Barrow is a native of the Netherlands. After Neaumann’s retirement following the 2016 campaign, Barrow was elevated to team captain from within.
After Barrow took over as head coach for seven seasons, the Bulldogs finished 43-34 overall. In 2020, they made their deepest playoff run, making it to the regional semifinals.
With consecutive trips to the 5A-II title game, Mid-County rival Port Neches-Groves has risen to prominence in the state. Last month, PN-G achieved its first state championship since 1975.
