Headlines: Lane Hutson gets geared up for the season

Things got a little too chippy in Monday’s joint practice session between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions, which in truth, isn’t very surprising.

What’s a bit unexpected, however, is that it was Giants QB Daniel Jones who was right in the middle of a heated altercation between the players on both teams.

Jones clearly did not appreciate the roughhousing from the Lions defensive line, and he made his feelings about it abundantly clear.

Daniel Jones getting in the middle of a scuffle!!! One play after Brian Daboll was ticked that Jones had his arm hit by a defender.

Unfortunately, the angle of the video wasn’t the best so it is unclear if any punches were thrown. Either way, cooler heads eventually prevailed.

This was just one of a handful of fights throughout the practice session as players on both sides clearly brought the fire.

As for Jones, the 27-year-old was quick to play down the incident when asked about it by the press. He instead focused on the team’s overall performance in practice.

I mean, situation happens like that, you try to stand up for your guys but I thought it was a good competitive practice all day today,” Jones said (h/t Nick Shook of NFL.com). “We made some plays and did some good things, there’s some things we need to [shore] up for sure. But good intensity and competitive spirit there.”

“I think that’s the goal every day you come out to practice, whether you’re practicing against another team or yourself is to feel better and more confident at the end of the day,” Jones said on Monday. “I think we did that, I think we made some plays, executed well throughout the day. Like I said, there’s some things we want back and things we could do better for sure but overall I thought we played tough, played physical, and executed well.”
