Breaking News:Boston Jeremy Swayman hit out with serious breakout with best pal
reak in stunning fashion when Rafael Devers launched a double in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Tyler O’Neill and seal the 3-2 win at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Red Sox suffered an injury scare when Kenley Jansen looked uncomfortable during an eight-pitch at-bat with Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena.
After issuing a walk to Arozarena, Jansen received a visit to the mound from the team trainer, Red Sox manager Alex Cora and catcher Danny Jansen. He stayed in the game and got designated hitter Cal Raleigh to ground out to first base.
Cora didn’t have much of an update on the relief pitcher following the Red Sox win.
He slipped on one of his pitches,” Cora told reporters. “He felt it in his lower back. We’ll see where we’re at Friday.”
Jansen owns a 3.05 ERA in 38 1/3 innings with 43 strikeouts and 20 saves this year for Boston.
Boston is right in the middle of the tight American League wild-card race with the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Kansas City Royals.
The Red Sox return to action Friday night when they take on the Rangers at Globe Life Field in the first of a three-game series in Texas. The Rangers are eight games back and five games below .500. Winning the series in Texas would certainly help Boston close the gap. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET, and you can catch the game, plus a full hour of pregame coverage, live on NESN.
