Breaking: The general manager of Raider Nation was let go because of…

GM Mike Mayock is fired by the Las Vegas Raiders following their playoff loss to the Bengals.

General manager Mike Mayock of the Las Vegas Raiders was fired two days after the team’s season was ended by an AFC wild-card playoff loss.

After working for several networks, most notably the NFL Network, for 25 years as a college and professional football analyst, Mayock, 63, was hired at the end of the 2018 season.

The Raiders have improved every year in his three seasons as general manager. This season, they finished 10-7 before falling to the Cincinnati Bengals 26-19 on Saturday.

The Raiders released a statement on Monday afternoon, saying, “We thank Mike for his contributions over the last three years in helping to form the foundation for the franchise to build upon in its future.”

Mayock’s arrival with the Raiders in 2019 coincided with the team luring Jon Gruden out of retirement to take over as head coach. However, one of his first personnel moves was trading for troubled wide receiver Antonio Brown, who never played a regular season snap for the Raiders before he was released.

Even though some of his first-round draft selections were dubious, Mayock was successful in the later rounds with underappreciated players like defensive lineman Maxx Crosby and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Gruden left the team five games into the 2021 campaign. Mayock brought in special teams coach Rich Bisaccia in his place, and the team made the playoffs for the first time in five years.

It is unclear at this time whether Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, will keep Bisaccia as head coach indefinitely or search for a replacement.
