BREAKING NEWS: Kansas State QB will howard announces retirement…

For his final season of collegiate eligibility, Will Howard is attempting to become Ohio State’s starting quarterback.

Howard spent four seasons at Kansas State and transferred to the Buckeyes in January. He shares an OSU quarterback room with Devin Brown, Julian Sayin, Air Noland and Lincoln Kienholz.

Howard will make his Ohio State debut at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 when the Buckeyes host Akron for the 2024 season opener.

Howard was not seemingly on Ohio State’s shortlist in the 2020 recruiting class.

Howard was the No. 882 prospect in the country per 247Sports’ composite rankings and was the No. 33 pro-style quarterback in the class out of Downington West High School in Pennsylvania.

As a quarterback at Downingtown West High School, Howard threw 48 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. In his junior and senior seasons, he posted a 39-to-10 touchdown-to-interception ratio and averaged at least 180 passing yards per game.

Howard has the most touchdown passes in Kansas State history with 48 after he tied the school single-season record with 24 touchdown passes in 2023, adding a career-high 2,643 passing yards and a 61.3% completion rate.

Howard is one of four Kansas State quarterbacks to eclipse 40 touchdowns in a career, joining Josh Freeman, Skylar Thompson and Jake Waters.

Howard also rushed for 921 yard and added 19 rushing touchdowns at Kansas State
