Former Munster Rugby star to join Leinster’s coaching team
FORMER Munster Rugby out-half Tyler Bleyendaal has agreed to join Leinster Rugby ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season as Assistant Coach.
New Zealander Bleyendaal is moving to Leinster to replace the departing Andrew Goodman, who has agreed to join Andy Farrell’s Irish senior set-up.
Bleyendaal is no stranger to these shores having played 62 times with Munster before a persistent neck injury forced him into early retirement in May 2020.
The talented play-maker made his debut for Munster against Benetton Rugby in September 2015. Primarily playing out-half, he also lined out at first centre, captained the side on 11 occasions, scored five tries and kicked 352 points.
Bleyendaal was also involved in coaching the backs at Garryowen FC in 2020.
Before joining Munster, the outhalf had played 21 games for the Crusaders and 32 games for Canterbury in Super Rugby.
Since retiring, the former New Zealand U-20s captain, has been part of the Hurricanes coaching team initially under Jason Holland and now under Clark Laidlaw. The Hurricanes are currently first in the Super Rugby table, unbeaten after seven games. Bleyendaal was also part of the Tonga coaching team at the Rugby World Cup in France last year.
