Eli Tomac to Miss Supercross Finale and Early Pro Motocross Rounds Due to Thumb Surgery
In a significant setback for his championship aspirations, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac will miss the upcoming AMA Supercross season finale in Salt Lake City and the initial rounds of the 2024 Pro Motocross season. The decision comes after Tomac sustained a Bennett fracture and torn ligaments in his thumb, requiring surgery that will sideline him for six to eight weeks.
The injury occurred during free practice at the penultimate round of the Supercross season in Denver, where Tomac had a crash that significantly impacted his thumb. This incident not only affects his participation in the final Supercross round but also compromises his presence in the early stages of the Pro Motocross season, including the first four rounds. If recovery goes as planned, Tomac’s earliest possible return could be for the Southwick National on June 29.
Jeremy Coker, the team manager for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, expressed his disappointment but emphasized the team’s focus on Tomac’s health and recovery. “It’s unfortunate to have Eli sit out this weekend and the opening rounds of the outdoor season, but our main focus is to have him back healthy,” said Coker. “It’s just part of racing. We look forward to having him back to 100% and battling up front.”
