GOOD NEWS: Nashville SC sign Thomas Tuchel who won UEFA Champions League final for Chelsea…
How Nashville SC will be affected by Summer Olympics, Copa América
A majority of MLS teams, including Nashville SC, are off this week to accommodate the FIFA international match window, which serves as a precursor for marquee tournaments this summer.
Many national teams in North and South America are preparing for the Copa América, which takes place from June 20 to July 14 in the United States. It’s also the beginning of the second round of CONCACAF qualification for the 2026 World Cup. And the soccer competition at the Summer Olympics in Paris is set for July 24-Aug. 9.
Nashville has four players training with their national teams — Walker Zimmerman, Shaq Moore, Jacob Shaffelburg and Aníbal Godoy — and could be without them for substantial stretches this summer.
Walker Zimmerman set to represent United States at Olympics
The Olympic teams are limited mostly to players 23 and younger, with three spots for overage players. Walker Zimmerman, 31, is in line to fill one of those spots for the United States. The center back, who has 42 caps for the senior national team, was called up as the only overage player in coach Marko Mitrović’s 25-player training camp.
