Michigan Wolverines Recruit New Cautious Line Mentor After Greg Scruggs Abdication

The Michigan Wolverines have completely remade their coaching staff in recent months. However, new head coach Sherrone Moore has had to do a little extra work. Greg Scruggs was brought in to coach the defensive line, but an OWI arrest led to his suspension and eventual resignation. It didn’t take long for Moore to find someone else. Former Memphis assistant Lou Esposito has been hired to coach the defensive line.

Esposito was a co-defensive coordinator at Memphis currently but spent 2017-23 in the state of Michigan. He was the defensive coordinator for the Western Michigan Broncos and coached the MAC’s no. 2 ranked scoring defense in 2022. He couldn’t pass up the opportunity to coach this defense. Michigan has been a menace on the defensive line for the past couple of years, but his value goes beyond coaching

Lou Esposito has great recruiting ties in the Midwest. This is a huge asset to the Wolverines who have room for improvement on the recruiting trail.

The Michigan Wolverines never have an issue attracting talent on the field or on the coaching staff. It will be interesting to see how Esposito does on the sidelines with this talented group.
