Prison of Destruction: Preparing for Detroit’s exciting wild-card matchup between the Lions and Rams
DETROIT — The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams rocked the NFL world three years ago with an offseason trade. Matthew Stafford was sent to the Rams, as Jared Goff and a collection of meaty draft picks came to Detroit in return.
It’s turned out to be a win-win situation for both franchises. Stafford and the Rams won a Super Bowl championship in their first year together. And now the veteran gunslinger had led a reshaped roster back to the postseason for the second time in three years.
Goff has resurrected his career while leading the Lions to new heights, including their first division championship in 30 years. The Rams gave up on their former first overall pick and the quarterback that helped lead them to the Super Bowl, and now LA and head coach Sean McVay will have to go through Goff on its quest to get back on top.
MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast is back to preview the juicy playoff matchup, with Stafford returning to Ford Field for the first time since that league-shifting trade. Hosts Kyle Meinke and Ben Raven also break down the team’s 30-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings to end the season. The guys also touch on the Sam LaPorta injury and where the Lions go from here.
We’ll be back with another mailbag podcast later this week, with plans for a special guest to join the program. But if you want to submit a question to the Dungeon of Doom, sign up for our insider text program.
