Breaking News:Fox Sports Radio Host Accused of Racism for Questionable Take on Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson
Fox Sports Radio host Monse Bolanos was accused of making racist commentary, which she addressed online, for her questionable argument against Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson winning the NFL’s MVP award.
On Thursday, Bolanos was discussing the NFL’s MVP race with co-host Dan Beyer. When asked about Lamar’s chance of winning the MVP against the likes of San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey or Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, Bolanos claimed the argument in favor of Jackson is “absurd.”
“I want my quarterbacks to be ‘quarterbacky,’ Bolanos said after mentioning the fact that Jackson failed to throw a touchdown pass in four games this season. “And, to me, Lamar Jackson’s just a great athlete, and he’s done a really good job and he had a great game against the 49ers. Prisoners of the moment, he is not the MVP. Christian McCaffrey is the MVP and he has been. I’ve been saying this for weeks.
Shortly after the clip was posted, Twitter users took exception to her comments about Jackson being a “great athlete” but not “quarterbacky” enough for her. Some even went as far as claiming the comments had racist undertones.
The reason for the outrage comes from the football’s history with Black quarterbacks. It was once thought that black athletes lacked the intelligence to play QB, leading to them being moved to other positions. When former league executive Bill Polian suggested that Jackson should switch to wide receiver, many drew parallels to that past.
Overall, some fans are still under the impression that Black QBs simply aren’t given the chance to develop like their White counterparts. Just hours before Bolanos’ comments, Alabama QB Jalen Milroe revealed one of his own coaches told him he should switch positions.
