Breaking: Amari Williams has agreed to terms with Charlotte Hornets just to fulfill mom’s wish

Amari Williams, the versatile forward out of LSU, had finally seen his phone light up with the call he had been waiting for. It was his agent, David Marks, with a smile in his voice.

“Amari,” David said, “you’re about to be a Charlotte Hornet.”

Amari took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. It had been a whirlwind journey — from Baton Rouge, where he was the star of the Tigers, to draft night when he didn’t hear his name called. But the NBA wasn’t a fairytale. He knew it took more than just talent. It took patience, grit, and a little bit of luck.

After a strong showing in the G League and dominating in the Summer League, Amari had caught the eye of several teams. The Hornets had been impressed by his energy, his defense, and his knack for making clutch plays — something the young, rebuilding team needed.

Amari leaned back on his sofa, glancing at his mother sitting across from him. She had been there every step of the way, through the highs and lows, the injury scares, and the doubts.

“They’re offering you a two-way contract,” David continued. “You’ll get time with the Greensboro Swarm, but they want you up with the big team as soon as you’re ready. Coach Clifford sees you as a piece they can build with.”

Amari’s eyes filled with a quiet determination. He had always dreamed of this moment — not just making it to the league, but earning his spot. He nodded, even though David couldn’t see him. “Let’s do it,” he said.

As he hung up the phone, his mother was already crying, pulling him into a tight embrace. “I knew you’d make it,” she whispered.

Amari didn’t reply. He just closed his eyes and smiled, picturing the Hornets jersey with his name on the back.
