Rutgers football renews Greg Schiano’s contract…

Rutgers football extends contracts of multiple assistant coaches, including Super Bowl champion

Greg Schiano kept most of his coaching staff intact this offseason, and Rutgers has already started working to do the same next offseason.

The Scarlet Knights signed extensions with multiple assistant coaches over the offseason, according to contracts obtained by NJ Advance Media on Wednesday via Open Public Record Act (OPRA) requests.

Most notably, Rutgers extended offensive line coach Patrick Flaherty’s deal — which was set to expire in February — through the 2025 campaign. According to the new contract signed on August 1st, he will receive $450,000 this season — a $50,000 raise from his previous deal signed last October — and will make $500,000 during the 2025 season.

Flaherty received a retention bonus of $25,000 this September and will get another if he remains employed by Rutgers next September. Rutgers will hope that the experience assistant, who won two Super Bowls with the Giants, sticks around: he has helped develop a struggling unit into one of the best offensive lines in recent memory at Rutgers.

Safeties coach Drew Lascari signed a one-year extension in May that will keep him in Piscataway through the 2025 season. He will earn $300,000 during the 2024 season — a $50,000 raise form his previous deal signed last summer — and will make $350,000 during the 2025 campaign.

Strength and conditioning coach Jay Butler also received a one-year extension through the 2025 season. According to the contract signed on July 31st, he will earn $600,000 during the 2024 and 2025 seasons – a $100,000 raise from the 2023 season.
