News update:it very extensive from the report it really a sad one for Green Bay Packers
GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson and offensive tackle Luke Tenuta were designated to return from injured reserve and practiced on Wednesday.
Moments after Aaron Jones suffered a knee injury and was carted off the field against the Chargers on Nov. 19, Wilson was carted off the field with a shoulder injury. The undrafted rookie, who led the NFL in preseason rushing yards to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, missed the last four games.
In seven games, Wilson rushed 14 times for 85 yards (6.1 average) with a long run of 31 yards, and caught 4-of-5 passes for 23 yards.
He’s a quiet guy by nature, but it was cool (that) you were starting to see his personality come out a little bit more and more, and I was really excited for him,” coach Matt LaFleur said after practice. The injury was “unfortunate,” LaFleur said, from the standpoint that Jones’ injury would have been Wilson’s path to a “real opportunity” for more playing time. In his seven appearances, he never played more than eight snaps
I think he’s done a great job of staying mentally engaged and making sure there is no drop-off from a mental standpoint,” LaFleur said. “Matter of fact, I think he’s probably light-years ahead of where he was mentally in terms of just the things that are required of that position. So, we’ll see how he goes through the week and where he’s at and have to make a decision.
The Packers could have an abundance of backs with Wilson, Jones, AJ Dillon, Patrick Taylor and Kenyan Drake once everyone is healthy. Jones returned from his injury last week, Dillon missed last week with a broken thumb and Drake has played a few snaps as a practice-squad elevation as he learns the offense. Being designated to return means they can practice without counting on the 53-man roster. At the end of that 21-day practice window, the players must be added to the 53 or revert back to injured reserve for the rest of the season.
The season could be over before the window closes. If nothing else, being designated to return means Tenuta can finish this season with three weeks of practice time, which he can use to build some momentum for 2024.
