New Jersey Devils Sign Brenden Dillon to Three Seasons, $12 Million Contract
The New Jersey Devils jumped out of the gate of Free Agency Frenzy this year by signing two defensemen. Brett Pesce came to terms and was announced shortly after noon struck. The other defenseman is former Winnipeg Jet (and former Dallas Star, San Jose Shark, and Washington Capital) Brenden Dillon. The Devils signed him to a three season contract worth $12 million for a cap hit of $4 million per season according to Elliott Friedman via ex-Devils goon and current Sportsnet analyst Luke Gazdic. No additional clauses have been announced as of this writing.
2:51 PM Update: The Devils announced the signing earlier on their website. Per their release, Dillon will make $5 million in this coming season, $4 million in 2025-26, and $3 million in 2026-27.
Who is Brenden Dillon?
Brenden Dillon is a 33-year old (turning 34 in November) left-shooting defenseman who has been in the league for a while. He has 892 regular season games under his belt between Dallas, San Jose, Washington, and most recently Winnipeg. With 196 points in those 892 games and a career high of 23 points in a season, Dillon is not known for his offense. The 6’4”, 225 pound defender is more known for using said frame to hit people and to play defense. Per PuckPedia, Dillon is coming off a four-season, $15.6 million contract with the Jets. His cap hit was $3.9 million. With this new deal with the Devils, Dillon gets a marginal raise.
