Sincerely Tony Mowbray was fired from Sunderland on Monday, the club has been without a manager for more than a week.

Sunderland is back in the top six thanks to two impressive victories over West Brom and Leeds United, both of which were led by interim manager Mike Dodds.

Although there are those who believe Dodds could be a suitable, albeit initially shorter-term, replacement for Mowbray, it appears that Reims boss Will Still is the current front-runner.

Until Romano revealed on X that Sunderland now have a new “top target” for the Stadium of Light position.

Romano, a transfer expert and insider, revealed earlier today on X that Still and Sunderland have not reached a deal.

Romano went on to say that the Black Cats are still trying to hire a new head coach, but that the club and owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus have found a new “top target” to replace Mowbray.

It’s obviously not known, but there’s a few names who could be speculated here.

The fact that Romano says it’s a ‘top target’ suggests that it isn’t Dodds for one, as he would surely jump at the chance to take on the job, and no negotiating would be needed

Before Still, Julien Sable appeared to be the front-runner, so it’s possible that he will win, along with Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna and others

McKenna is still a good candidate for the Black Cats, but it seems like an ambitious job given his ongoing success at Portman Road; or at least one that costs a lot of money, which doesn’t seem to be Sunderland’s thing right now.
