Connor Bouchard, Shane Farkas and Clayton Hanus of the Mount Royal University Cougars men’s hockey team have claimed top U SPORTS honours

Bouchard won the Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy as player of the year during the All-Canadian Awards Ceremony on Wednesday in Toronto, site of this week’s championship tournament.

The Cochrane product scored 23 goals and added 34 assists in 25 regular-season games — an average of 2.28 points per game — and posted a plus-31 rating in his second season with the Cougars.

Bouchard recorded a 24-game point streak while becoming the first U SPORTS player to reach the 50-point milestone since 2000-01.

Bouchard, who spent five seasons with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL, is the second Cougar in three seasons to win the award, following Nolan Yaremko in 2022.

Also nominated for this year’s honour were Austen Keating of undefeated UNB and Simon Lafrance of UQTR, which is seeded second at nationals

Farkas is the U SPORTS goaltender of the year. The second-year Cougar from Penticton, B.C., posted a 17-3 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.

Brock’s Connor Ungar Brock and Acadia’s Thomas Couture were also nominated for the award.

Hanus, a defenceman, joins Bouchard and Farkas on the first-team all-Canadian unit. Hanus, of Excelsior, Minn., scored 13 and added 23 assists in 26 games in his second season with MRU
