News update:Kirk Campbell checking on five-star QB this week
Michigan had a historic 2023 football season as they captured their first national championship title since 1997 by going a perfect 15-0.
The Wolverines have gotten to work on the 2025 recruiting class and future classes to come by hitting the recruiting trail as of late. They have been on the road and The Michigan Insider has learned that quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell will be stopping by Nashville (Tenn.) Christian School to check on 2026 five-star quarterback Jared Curtis on Wednesday.
Regarding the NFL Network’s report that the Los Angeles Chargers really have made an “extremely strong offer financially”… I don’t have any information on the specifics of said offer, but if it’s in-line with the Harbaugh has told folks in Ann Arbor would be at least in the $16 million per year range… then I think it is a play to keep him from his second interview with Atlanta. And if they’ve come that strong, I’d be surprised if he isn’t the Chargers next head man. Short of that I think he follows through with his second interview with the Atlanta Falcons.
As I’ve mentioned previously, If Harbaugh goes, you should expect Jesse Minter would go with him. Word from agent sources was he slow-played Jacksonville before they moved on and hired Atlanta Falcons defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen. Now I’m told Minter is fielding interest from the Giants and the Eagles (who he interviewed with last year), but that he’s waiting to see what Jim does.
That could presumably give Michigan a better shot at keeping him if things go unexpectedly south with the Chargers, but it continues to be far more likely than not that he’s coached his last down at Michigan. (To be clear, Michigan will try to keep Minter if Harbaugh goes, I just believe those efforts would be futile)
There will be a handful of great rematches in 2024 and below are the nine most intriguing. This offseason has been one of immense change, with no story being bigger than the retirement of Nick Saban. His departure made the coaching carousel spin when Alabama elected former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer as its next leader
While rosters and coaches may be different, rematches have an unmatched intensity due to the desire to get revenge. Intensity is set by fans and programs tend to grasp the significance of the clash based on how its supporters reacted to the previous season’s win or loss.
