The University of Georgia’s football program continues to assert its dominance on the recruiting trail, now positioning itself as a frontrunner for five-star safety DJ Pickett, the top-ranked safety in the 2025 class according to On3.  This development follows a recent 247Sports forecast favoring the Bulldogs, highlighting their growing influence in securing elite defensive talent.

Pickett, hailing from Zephyrhills High School in Florida, has narrowed his choices to five programs: Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, and Oregon.  Notably, Florida, once considered a leading contender, did not make his final list.  Pickett has visited Athens three times, and the recent additions of defensive coaches Donte Williams and Travaris Robinson have significantly bolstered Georgia’s appeal.  Pickett expressed his admiration for the coaching staff, stating, “They got Donte, Coach T-Rob, then Kirby and coach Muschamp are both still there. That’s four defensive eyes… I knew coach T-Rob pretty well. Adding him with coach Kirby is just a win-win.”

Georgia’s track record in developing defensive backs further enhances its attractiveness to prospects like Pickett.  The Bulldogs’ recent success in flipping five-star safety KJ Bolden from Florida State underscores their prowess in recruiting top-tier defensive talent.  Bolden’s decision was influenced by Georgia’s emphasis on player development and preparation for the NFL.

As the 2025 recruiting cycle progresses, Georgia’s strategic focus on defensive excellence and its ability to attract elite talent like DJ Pickett solidify its status as a powerhouse in college football recruiting.
