BREAKING: Clemson Tigers Confirm Antonio Williams Out for Several Months After Tearing Cruciate Ligament in Right Knee

— Fox Sports News | March 26, 2025

Clemson, SC – In a major blow to the Clemson Tigers’ 2025 campaign, star wide receiver Antonio Williams has been ruled out for several months after suffering a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee, the program confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

Williams sustained the injury during Tuesday’s spring practice session in a non-contact drill, according to team sources. The 6-foot sophomore immediately went down clutching his knee and was helped off the field by trainers. An MRI later revealed a torn ACL.

He is scheduled to undergo surgery early next week, and team doctors estimate a recovery timeline of 7 to 9 months, putting his return to football action in serious doubt for the upcoming season.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement. “Antonio’s a dynamic player and a great young man. He’s worked incredibly hard this offseason and was poised for a breakout year. We’re gonna support him every step of the way.”

Williams emerged as a key offensive weapon last season, finishing with 58 receptions for 712 yards and five touchdowns. His speed and route-running ability made him a go-to target and a leader in the Tigers’ receiving corps.

With Williams sidelined, Clemson will likely turn to a mix of young talent and veteran depth to fill the void, including rising sophomore Tyler Brown and redshirt junior Beaux Collins.

While the injury is a tough setback, Williams took to social media to share a message with fans:

“This ain’t the end. Just another chapter in the story. I’ll be back stronger. Appreciate all the love.”

Clemson opens the 2025 season on August 30th against Georgia Tech. Williams’ absence will undoubtedly impact their offensive strategy, but the Tigers will look to rally around their injured teammate as they set their sights on a return to championship form.

Fox Sports will continue to monitor his recovery and provide updates as they become available.
